Lisa`s interest in teddy bears began when she was a 10 year old girl growing up in Aberdeen. She collected anything teddy related from teddy soaps to teddy bears. There were no dolls in her toy cupboard just bears. As her interest matured she was drawn more and more to collector bears created by various artists from throughout the World. At the age of 20 she attended her first teddy bear workshop along with her mother Fiona (who also makes but mostly repairs along with her husband Leslie) and from there made the odd teddy for herself or friends (which were very popular and often asked for). Seven years later with the help of her family she decided to try her luck at opening her own teddy bear shop, which after much hard work and sewing has went from strength to strength.
All of Belle`s Bears own bears are made of various mohairs from coarse to soft, they have hardboard cotterpin joints, glass or leather eyes and are filled with either sand, gun shot or plastic pellets for that nice weighty feel, or if you prefer a traditional feel there is woodwool.
Most of the bears are one offs or are of very limited editions and (as can be seen in the gallery photos) each has its own loveable character.
